Here are some quick tips when buying Home Theater:

Make sure both Dolby Digital and DTS decoders are supported. Fortunately most systems support them.
Systems with newer decoders support 6.1 and 7.1 channels but these standards arent presently used on many DVDs
At least one HDMI (1.3 is the latest version) port will make it possible to get the best HDTV signal
