I would recommend first updating the software in the unit to the latest version, which is now just a few keystrokes with Garmin's Webupdater software downloaded from their site to handle the large capacity cards...I could imagine them a little more easier to use, but they are quite good as they are...Cons * The satellite reception is spotty under tree cover...
Battery life is very good and the unit is all so light! It makes a fine hiking partner...They are fairly inexpensive so that's good...For example, some of the landmarks shown on my unit in my city have been gone for a good 5 years...
Overall this is very easy to operate...The device is great, but without good maps, you'll be reconsidering your purchase...Screen is very clear and unit receives a good signal, even inside my house...
